Video Review



1.
Architectue: The Science of Design
·        Learned about skyscrapers and their different parts such as the part above ground and the part below
·        Learned about how wind can have an effect on skyscrapers and can move them up to 3 meters
·        Learned about the use of concrete in today’s society, in the ancient world and what kind of concrete we use today
·        Learned about how some people want to move into more individual houses and have a more natural setting while another group wants to build huge apartment buildings
Imperial Rome, Ostia, and Portus: Ancient Architecture and Technology
·       Learned about how aqueducts were created to bring in water and they had to be at a gently downslope in order to bring water in
·       Created large fortifications meters high and meters thick
·       Learned about the building and design of the city of Ostia and the artificial port at portus
·       Learned Romans built multi-story, mosaic embellished warehouses for goods and grains
·       Learned that they could construct 5 story apartment complexes
·       Learned that they had public latrines and baths with some lead and terracotta pipes
·       Learned about the pantheon and its roundness and dome ceiling
·       Learned that they had underground heaters and drainage for bathhouses
2. How do the videos relate to the readings in the text? The videos relate to the text because it gives you a deeper understanding of the text and helping you learn the material that much better.  The videos cover the parts of the material in the chapter and it is good supplementary material. In the first video I learned about the uses and overall importance of concrete in today’s world as well as the ancient world. In second video
3. I personally enjoyed the films and the added material they provided for the understanding of the material. I would say that they do add depth to the topics discussed in the videos. They give you a greater look at all different aspects of the topic and give you the ability to decide how you feel about the methods and materials used in architecture and why certain material are used for certain things or in certain areas.
4. I choose those videos because they interested me the most out of all the videos that were there in all honesty. I didn’t choose them because of their length but because of their topics.
